A new Sun Microsystem’s owned facility was built to provide universal space of 217,000 sq. ft. to accommodate a new manufacturing plant for Sun’s full range of computer hardware.

Electrical panels and data servers, which often encumber manufacturing space with an inflexible layout of fixed equipment, were located on an overhead catwalk, freeing the space below for manufacturing. Architectural details, like the catwalk, provide clear, well-ordered space. This sense of organization is punctuated by striking overhead and equipment-mounted signs, which direct and orient employees and guests within the manufacturing environment.

The implementation was completed without disruption to manufacturing capacity in either the existing facility or the new manufacturing plant. All solutions implemented here have been approved globally for use in the client’s worldwide manufacturing operations.
